Women in the Spotlight Interview
by Precise Publishing, September 2016
Welcome to our practice. I am Dr. Liz Matheis, but people typically call me Dr. Liz. I am a licensed clinical psychologist and certified school psychologist. I love to work with children with special needs, but especially children, adolescents and families on concerns related to ADD/ADHD, autism, learning disabilities, anxiety, and behavioral needs.
Dr Liz Matheis
After 10 years of being at Fairleigh Dickinson University, I earned my B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. I've served on the Child Study Team as a School Psychologist and Coordinator. I was responsible for evaluations for determining eligibility, prepared IEPs and met with parents and staff to determine special education program and related services based on the NJ Special Education Law.
I also served as a Psychologist and head of the Counseling Services Department at a local private school for children on the autistic spectrum.
Prior to that, I worked with college students at the FDU Regional Center for Students with Learning Disabilities. I coached students who had graduated high school and required additional academic support through a 504 Accommodation Plan.
On a personal note, I am a mother of 3 children (2 boys and 1 little lady). Just as you are, I am also running around and enjoying the ups and down of parenthood. When I have leisure time, I enjoy drinking (dry red) wine, making jewelry and crafting.
I look forward to working with you and your family!
